What the @$%# am I thinking?
With a list as comprehensive as this, it’s necessary
for me explain at least a handful of the rankings above.
1. Why KG over LeBron?
Because this year James has an outstanding supporting
cast, while Garnett has to shoulder more of the load in the absence of Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell. In addition to netting a double-double with five
assists per game, Garnett’s also a huge boost in blocks.
2. Peja is a Top 10 pick?
You bet. The departure of Chris Webber lifts a huge
weight off everyone’s shoulders, specifically Stojakovic’s,
who now becomes the focal point of the offense. Few players fire away from
downtown like Peja and shoot as high a percentage
overall.
3. Shaq doesn’t even make
the Top 20?
Gone are the days when Shaq
could overcome his horrific free-throw percentage (46.1 last year) by
dominating in field-goal percentage, points, rebounds and blocks. The breakout
of Dwayne Wade, coupled with the addition of Antoine Walker, Jason Williams and
James Posey surrounds O’Neal with one of the deepest teams he’s ever been on.
His broad shoulders will get a significant break from carrying the load.
4. What’s the deal with Cassell?
No good can come from a disgruntled veteran moving on
to a young, energetic team. The Clippers want
5. Joe Smith at 219?
The Bucks are reloading with youth, and Smith is
oddly enough, an over-the-hill member of the franchise at just 29. Andrew Bogut, Bobby Simmons will force their way into a playing
rotation that also includes Desmond Mason, T.J. Ford, Michael Redd and Maurice Williams.
